5 Great Reasons to Visit your Local Skin Clinic

Here at SkinMed®, our ultimate goal is to provide you with the best products and advice for your skin, but we are by no means the only skin experts. We have hundreds of SkinMed® accredited clinics all across the country, run by experts who know skin inside and out and can offer advice and treatments for a wide range of skin conditions.

Even if you don’t have a pre-existing skin condition, it’s a good idea to go and see a medical skin expert once a year for a check-up, so you can keep track of things like how your skin is ageing, and make sure you’re not running the risk of developing anything harmful, like skin cancer for example.

That’s why this week on #SkinTheKnow, we’re giving you our top five reasons to go and see the doctor or nurse that runs your local skin clinic so that you can get the right information about your skin, giving you the knowledge to do what’s best for you.

1. You will be seeing a skin expert.

Get your answers right from the experts!

Now, you may think that this goes without saying, but the doctors and nurses that lead our skin clinics are specialised experts in their field and are more well-versed in the world of skin than your GP, with the ability to diagnose over 3000 skin conditions. Despite this, many people, upon finding something about their skin that concerns them, go straight to their GP for a diagnosis, rather than consulting with someone who deals with skin exclusively.

Your GP may refer you to a dermatologist if they want a second opinion, but you may as well save yourself some time and go and speak to the doctor or nurse at your local skin clinic yourself and cut out the middleman.

2. Find out whats going on with your skin.

FAQ

There’s no such thing as a silly question – remember, knowledge is power!

With your local GP available on the NHS, many people are unwilling to splash out on what they might consider being an unnecessary expense, but many skin clinics will offer a consultation free of charge, or for a small fee that can be redeemed against products and treatments should you want them.

At your consultation, your skin will be assessed in detail, so that you can find out what it needs, what products and treatments would work for you to help you get the results you are looking for, and receive personalised treatment plans so that you can really get the best from your skin.

Remember, the skin is the largest, and arguably most important organ in the body, and should be treated with great care. Seeing a dermatologist can help you look your best, and improve the overall health of your skin.

3. Undiagnosed, or Misdiagnosed Skin Conditions.

Internet

The internet is an amazing tool, but the best resource for a health concern is always a trusted expert

The skin is often an organ that is misunderstood; if you have an upset stomach, it’s easy to assume it’s because of something you ate, but if your skin starts to react badly, how can you tell whether it’s because of something you have exposed yourself to, or whether it’s something medical that needs treatment?

Many conditions, like rosacea, for example, are widely misunderstood even amongst doctors, and can easily be misdiagnosed and mistreated. A lot of people may not even have the time or inclination to visit the doctor when they have a skin complaint, instead, trying over the counter products to try and treat themselves. But if you don’t really know what you are trying to treat, how can you know what treatments to buy?

Rosacea TripleLock: Clinically proven to target all causes and symptoms of rosacea, providing long-term relief in as little as 8 weeks

Then there are the more serious conditions like forms of skin cancer or sun damage, which may not necessarily be visible during their early stages, but can develop into something more dangerous if left unchecked.

A consultation with a medically lead clinic can help you with all of these issues, even if it is only to put your mind at ease and tell you that you have nothing to worry about. They can make sure you have the correct diagnosis for any skin complaints you might have, and offer effective treatments that will deliver real results.

4. Over-the-counter-treatments don’t cut it.

Products

All these fancy products may look impressive, but you really need an expert to tell you what’s going on inside, and what’s right for you

Long-standing sufferers of conditions like acne, eczema or rosacea may feel they have tried every treatment on the market with no effect. There are even those who have had products prescribed by their GP and still haven’t seen the results they are looking for. Medical-lead skin clinics, as well as offering a much deeper understanding of skin conditions and how to treat them, can offer products and treatments not available on the high street or in the chemist.

These products are often medically licenced and clinically proven to deliver results and will be recommended to you because they are right for your skin, and your skin expert will be there to see you through your journey to clear skin, offering help and advice along the way

5. Spend your money wisely!

Money

As my mother used to say, take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves!

With all the ads you see on the tv, on the internet and in magazines, it can be easy to get carried away with all the latest miracle products. But this dazzling array of expensive looking packaging, fancy names and bewilderingly scientific ingredients can lead to confusion and overspending on products you may not even need. Most of these products are just filled with empty promises, their science-y sounding contents are often just terms that have been made up.

With the sound advice from your skin clinic, you can be sure to spend your money wisely on products tailored to suit your skin and deliver results – without all the trial and error!

Many adults are affected by Rosacea

Rosacea

Many adults are affected by an inflammatory skin disease known as rosacea, which generally appears on the nose and cheeks. Most of the time this condition is chronic, and often will randomly appear and disappear. With each flare up comes the possibility that the condition is continually getting worse. The objective of rosacea treatment is to control the disease and prevent flare ups.

Identifying and Avoiding Triggers

Each case will most likely involve different triggers. The way to determine what triggers rosacea for you is by logging situations that you are in each day. Over time, you should be able to identify patterns that will provide insight into what’s causing the condition to progress. Once the triggers have been determined, you can take steps towards avoiding them. For example, let’s say you realise that exposure to the sun results in flare ups consistently. The way to counter this would be to wear sun screen to avoid aggravating the rosacea. Rosacure® Intensive would be ideal for this as it contains an SPF 30 as well as helping normalise and strengthen the skin against future flare ups.

Treatments

In certain cases, skin eruptions can be prevented with the application of antibiotics either topically or orally, however there is growing evidence that long term use of antibiotics is linked to MRSA.

Rosacure® is a rosacea treatment that was developed over a number of years and the formula has been trialled, tested, improved and trialled and tested again. The latest formulas offer significant results to over 80% of sufferers with reddening skin conditions ranging from rosacea to flushing to excessive blushing. The causes of all are different but the chemical reddening response in the face vessels and tissue is similar, which is why Rosacure® offers relief in a wide range of reddening issues. These issues include reducing the reddening response some people have when they visit skin clinics for thread veins, or facial rejuvenation techniques whereby they have chemical or physical peels, laser and light treatments or injections which can all stimulate reddening and swelling.
Rosacure® and the clinical version Synchrorose® are used as preventative measures pre clinical treatment to increase resistance to erythema.

However for those suffering from reddening skin conditions, when Rosacure® is used twice daily it can reduce redness in 10 to 14 days with further improvements from continued use. For some it takes longer and one should use for several months to get best results and to build up a level of tolerance.

Once control is achieved it is likely you will need to continue to use Rosacure® at a maintenance dosage level going forward and it should become part of your skin care routine. Rosacure®effectively increases the skin’s resistance by reducing the sensitivity to ‘triggers’.

Preparation is important for absorption of the active ingredients, so Rosacure® Gentle Cleansing Gel gently cleans the skin, removing make-up and skin debris, then normalises and softens the skin while also calming and soothing reddened areas. The system deeply and intensely nourishes the skin while boosting hydration to encourage active uptake of key ingredients and, last but not least, provides environmental protection factors.

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a very common skin condition that in some form affects a reported 4 million men and women in the UK and Ireland due to our fair skin complexions, but is almost 3 times more common in women 30 to 55. However,  men often suffer more severe symptoms. The long-term effects of rosacea can make people’s lives a misery and there are plenty of products out there on the market that claim to relieve symptoms but, in reality, relief is minimal.

However, help is now at hand for sufferers from a new product called Rosacure® (Synchrorose® the clinical strength version)  that is specially formulated for rosacea. Its unique formula also helps with excessive blushing and flushing. This revolutionary new clinical strength Rosacea treatment contains patented ingredients to suppress rosacea symptoms and also underlying causes and is only available in professional skin clinics.

One of the main triggers of rosacea is UV radiation, which many of us don’t think we are at risk of living in rainy British Isles. However, 90 per cent of UV rays can penetrate through cloud cover and this little known fact means that we are one of the worst nations for protecting our skin on a daily basis from damaging UV rays. And if you are have sun sensitive skin then this prolonged exposure in the first third of life is a key cause in the development of rosacea.

Rosacea is a long-term skin disorder that causes the facial skin tissue to redden, predominantly on the cheeks, nose and also on the forehead and chin. Inflammation of the underlying tissues, including the blood vessels, also occurs and in the early stages skin redness may appear as periodic blushing attacks. However, as the condition progresses sufferers may see angry, below the surface spots and surface water filled pustules can develop, as well as blood vessels becoming more pronounced which show as thread veins on the surface of the skin.

Rosacea tends to run in families and as a result many people mistakenly believe that their ruddy complexion is simply a family characteristic that they must learn to live with. The degree of reddening and the length of an episode tend to increase as our hormonal status alters in life.

In at least 10 per cent of cases rosacea can cause acne-like eruptions with pustules and lumps, and in one per cent, can cause eye problems such as redness, dryness, itching, burning, excess tears and the feeling of having sand in the eye. The eyelids may become inflamed and swollen and the eyes become sensitive to light.

Rosacure® (Synchrorose® the clinical strength version) helps sufferers by reducing reddening and swelling, increasing the skins resistance and decreasing its sensitivity to triggers. Rosacure® (Synchrorose® the clinical strength version)  also helps to protect by nourishing the skin and improving the skin quality, resulting in more tolerant and calmer skin and making it more resistant to damage, such as thread veins, and encourages recovery.

Two new ingredients have been added to Rosacure® (Synchrorose® the clinical strength version) existing ingredients. The first is a world first patented ingredient, clinically proven in rosacea studies by top dermatologists and research scientists, to be the first known agent to interrupt the rosacea development process. All previous and existing products targets the redness once stimulated. It works by blocking tiny protein fragments which are produced by nerve stimulation in itself triggered by common dietary triggers and internal bodily triggers. Theses protein fragments initiate the reddening process. By blocking them we can stop the reddening episode initiating.

The second new ingredient which improves skin tolerance to external triggers such as wind and UV but also improves hydration and skin texture.

Rosacure® (Synchrorose® the clinical strength version) is made using ingredients pharmaceutically isolated and purified which can visibly reduce permanent and intermittent redness in just 10 to 14 days. (average 2 to 6 weeks). Continued improvement is seen with continued use.

Peter Roberts, managing director of SkinMed who market Rosacure® (Synchrorose® the clinical strength version) , said: “Rosacea is a common skin condition that people need no longer suffer from. Whilst it is not life threatening, the disorder is debilitating as sufferers have to make changes to their lifestyle, for example, by avoiding going out in sunny weather, avoiding alcohol or by steering clear of strenuous exercise, all of which can cause flare-ups. Rosacure® (Synchrorose® the clinical strength version)  is revolutionary as it uses a new combination of active ingredients that help to visibly reduce redness and provide relief at a rate that has not been available before.”
